Wrapping Up

Argument in a Nutshell

The main thing to remember about a formal argument in an academic setting is that it is quite different from an informal, personal argument. You must think about how you’ll be persuasive while still maintaining your credibility (ethos) with an academic audience.

You’ll want to keep your audience in mind as you think about evidence that will be most convincing as you make decisions about the logic of your argument (logos) and the emotional appeals you make (pathos).
