Appendix 2 – Class Notes and MAO Tag Information

April 2023 – We are waiting on the implementation of a Tag in the District Level Find a Class SIS system. This tag will be similar to the “Low-cost textbook tag”- in that, any course will be able to be coded as an MAO class. The aim is that in addition to allowing students to filter for classes with MAO, the tag will automatically feed a statement into the Class Notes e.g. “This course will be taught with flexible attendance. For more information, contact your instructor.

To provide clarity to students, brief details in Class Notes can be included. Since many faculty already use the MAO approach and would like to inform students of their options, the implementation of MAO details in Class Notes can precede the availability of the MAO Tag.

Currently, there are no District Level guidelines or requirements for the details in the Class notes. Examples of how different colleges are addressing the addition of brief details in Class Notes:

Multiple Attendance Options is a statement at MCC, which includes suggestions for schedulers and faculty regarding Class notes that inform students of the MAO for a course.

An example statement from Phoenix College in Find a Class – This section will be taught using the HyFlex course design model. This flexible course structure allows students the option of attending sessions in the classroom, participating live online, or asynchronously online. Students can change their mode of attendance/participation according to their needs or preference on a weekly basis throughout the semester.
