Tech Set Up for In-person CUL 120

Description

Course: CUL 120 – Food Costing, Purchasing, and Inventory Control

Modality: In-person

General approach:

Equipment

Regular classroom with an instructor’s station. Additionally, there was a mobile laptop cart with 20 laptops that were used each class time.

Programs

Used Canvas Studio to create asynchronous lectures that were used live and online.

Reflection

What worked?

Once the Studio mechanics worked out, it was an ideal setup. It was easy to create the videos alone with PowerPoint and add videos. It is native to Canvas so it is automatically archived in a manner that allows for historical reference and use for later classes if applicable.

What can be improved?

Not much improvement from the application itself. I believe there is an aspect of Studio that is similar to Ed Puzzle with embedded assignment aspects that can be used to increase engagement during the video playback. I think if I am able to fully incorporate that into the individual videos, it will further enhance the engagement experience.
