AI-Generated Content
When creating a works cited entry for AI-generated content, include the following:
- Prompt used to create the content in quotation marks followed by the word prompt
- Name of the AI tool in italics
- The version of the tool
- The company that makes the tool
- Date the content was generated
- Public URL for the tool
Note
To find the version and release date of the generative AI tool you are using, ask for that information in the chat interface. For example, you can ask, “What version of ChatGPT is this?” and “What is the release date for that version of ChatGPT?”
Format for Citing Generative AI in MLA:
“Insert the text of your prompt” prompt. Generative AI Tool, Day Month version, Company that owns the AI, Day Month Year, link to the AI tool.
