Introduction

This book is intended as a review for incoming Block 1 MaricopaNursing students. It presents a curated collection of videos and accompanying interactive activities designed to reinforce an understanding of the fundamental concepts covered in the lower-division BIO201 (Human Anatomy and Physiology I) and BIO202 (Human Anatomy and Physiology II) courses and is not intended as a comprehensive review.  Instead, the book reviews the topics that are most relevant to students as they progress through nursing school. Each book chapter provides a brief written overview of the topic followed by a concise video review. Some chapters also provide interactive activities that can be used for practice and to help you remember the important concepts for each topic. While the book can be used on its own, all chapters have a corresponding assessment in the associated Canvas course*. Whether you’re preparing for exams, needing a refresher, or just keen to deepen your knowledge, these resources are here to support your learning journey.

Video and Interactive Features

Each video is concise and focused, highlighting key concepts and important details. The interactivities incorporated in this book are designed to test your comprehension and help you to remember what you’ve learned. These questions mimic the style and depth of those you might find on your exams, ensuring you’re well-prepared.

  5. Review Your Answers: Go through the correct answers and explanations to understand any mistakes. Reviewing is a valuable part of the learning process. You can return to the activities at any time to give yourself a memory boost about the topic.
  6. Optional: Go back to your past notes in BIO201 and BIO202 for areas where you need more help. Looking back to past contexts where you encountered this information before helps you make connections and transfer your learning from working memory into your long-term memory.

Phoenix College Nursing Project Team

A small cross-functional team consisting of faculty, lab instructors, subject matter experts, and an instructional designer from Phoenix College collaborated to create a structured review for incoming Block 1 MaricopaNursing students using open educational resources. Within this group, a smaller team focused on Anatomy & Physiology in a nursing context created this topic review.
