About the Authors
Matthew Bloom, M.A.
English Faculty, Scottsdale Community College
Matthew Bloom is English Faculty and Co-Chair of the OER Committee at Scottsdale Community College. He is also a Tri-Chair of Open Maricopa (formerly the “Maricopa Millions OER Project”), after serving from 2018-2020 as the district’s first Faculty-in-Residence OER Coordinator. His materials for OER faculty development and first-year composition have been shared widely, and as a 2016-7 Maricopa Institute for Learning fellow he studied the impact of renewable assignments on skills mastery.
Christine Jones
English Faculty, Glendale Community College
Christine Jones is English Faculty and Co-Chair of the OER Committee at Glendale Community College. She is also the OER Coordinator for GCC. After spending over a decade teaching English for universities at locations outside of the United States, she has learned the value of open resources and open pedagogy in international settings. Christine is dedicated to teaching composition at every level.
Cameron MacElvee, Ph.D.
English Faculty, Scottsdale Community College
Cameron MacElvee is English faculty at Scottsdale Community College. She teaches all levels of composition and various literature courses. She incorporates the latest brain-based learning theory into her teaching and promotes education as a vehicle for self-growth and liberation.
Jeffrey Sanger
English and Creative Writing Faculty, Glendale Community College
Jeff Sanger teaches English composition and creative writing at Glendale Community College where he also co-directs the Honors Program. He is a past recipient of an OER mini-grant and was a regional OER conference presenter in 2021. His work has appeared at the Pittsburgh New Works Festival, in The Compleat Mother, in MtL magazine, and on Kindle.
Lori Walk, M.Ed.
English and Reading Faculty, Glendale Community College
Lori Walk is English and reading faculty and Assistant Chair for ENG102 at Glendale Community College. She is a bilingual educator who has participated in multiple learning communities to promote literacy and college success. She has created OER materials as a 2020 UN SDG Open Pedagogy Faculty Fellow and is currently piloting OER tools through the Maricopa OpenSkill project. As a member of the GCC Health Sciences FOI, she has collaborated to create contextualized ENG101 and ENG102 Canvas master courses using adopted commercial text and OER.
