This textbook was part of a grant supported project that remixed and reused existing OER materials, as well as created new content which emphasized cultural universals and culturally specific constructs in psychology. This textbook was created for an undergraduate course that appeals to psychology majors and non-majors because it meets several general education and transfer credit requirements. Additionally, our materials were aimed at meeting lower division curriculum needs where options for psychology and culture are limited.

The Connected Mind: Exploring Psychology Through Culture is a comprehensive, openly licensed Psychology and Culture book and course. The book and course were adapted from existing OER materials and incorporate updated research with current data and new sections that emphasize culturally relevant pedagogy. Given that many students enrolled in this course are not psychology majors, the text uses cross-disciplinary examples that highlight the relevance of psychological concepts across various fields. The emphasis is on fostering cultural competency and a broad understanding of diverse perspectives in psychology.
