Mosaicos culturales: El concepto del tiempo y la puntualidad
The concept of “punctuality” in Spanish-speaking countries.
In Spain and many countries in Latin America, the concept of punctuality is considered more “relaxed,” especially when it comes to family gatherings or social events. People don’t mind arriving late to a social event or a party. Arriving early or on time is considered inappropriate and even unnecessary. This is due to the much more relaxing approach to timing and punctuality. People may set up a time on an invitation just for the formality of it, but showing up a few hours after the time requested on the invitation is actually “expected.” People prefer to stay longer and extend the time of the gatherings or parties. This is why there is never an ending time on an invitation, just the “starting” time. |
Y ahora ustedes. . .
- ¿Te gusta llegar temprano o tarde a las fiestas?
- ¿Eres puntual? ¿Siempre? ¿Cuándo?
