MAT225 (Linear Algebra) complete MOER course

Linda Moon and Donna Tannehill

Executive Summary

This project created a Linear Algebra course in MOER that could be used by other instructors. The first phase was going through the course competencies and objectives of MAT225, a Linear Algebra class offered through Rio Salado College. With these, a course sequence was developed and a shell for the course was created. The course includes lessons with readings and videos from a OER textbook that is available online and by PDF for for free by any user. Along with these lessons are homework assignments, separated by topic, with weekly quizzes that assess the objectives of each lesson. There are also supplemental optional assignments that go with the lessons that include problems that challenge the students further with applications and interesting mathematical concepts that go with the lesson’s objectives. The course also includes a midterm and final exam that can be used when using this shell for a college course. The students who complete all of the assignments and exams should receive college credit for a first course in Linear Algebra.

Final Product

Materials are built within MOER, Maricopa’s version of My Open Math. If anyone would like to have access to the shell to use for their course, contact donna.tannehill@riosalado.edu, and she will be able to help provide this. Please email the course developer, Linda.moon@riosalado.edu, with any questions.
