MTC130: Jazz Theory – Expanding Understanding Through Improvisation & Composition

Executive Summary

This project focuses on activities based around using composition and improvisation as foundational to understanding of jazz theory. Through the use of this material students will gain an understanding of: the fundamentals of common jazz practices; the manner in which common jazz harmonies are constructed; and through the use of transcription, improvisation, and composition develop deeper understandings of jazz theory.
