Empowering Microbiology Learning: Customized OER Resources for Enhanced Student Engagement

Executive Summary

This Open Educational Resource (OER) on Bacterial Genetics provides an introductory exploration of the fundamental molecular processes that govern microbial genetics. This MOD (Maricopa Open Digital) press book details the structure of nucleic acids, the mechanisms of DNA replication, the flow of genetic information through transcription and translation into proteins, and the dynamic ways bacteria evolve through horizontal gene transfer. Furthermore, the resource examines viral replication strategies, particularly in bacterial hosts, and culminates in an understanding of how bacteria precisely control gene expression through regulatory systems like the operon model. Each chapter enriches understanding with integrated video explanations of fundamental concepts and offers several interactive H5P activities designed to bolster comprehension. This work successfully delivers foundational knowledge through an engaging, multi-modal approach essential for students and educators in the field of microbial genetics.
