Executive Summary

This OER Grant focused on the completion of 29 new chemistry videos to teach students new material covered in CHM 130 after the Instructional Council changed the Course Competencies in Fall 2024. Glendale Community College updated their OER textbook, previously written under a Maricopa Millions grant, during the summer of 2024. In order to teach this course online and in hybrid courses, the instructional videos had to be updated as well to align with the new competencies. Many students enrolled in in-person sections also use the instructional videos, and some sections are taught using a flipped model which requires videos to be viewed at home. It was therefore essential to update our videos for the 2024-2025 academic year. Dr. Kim Smith previously had created the CHM 130 course videos so she applied to update them via an OER Development Grant. In the course of the past nine months, she created 29 new videos for CHM 130 and uploaded them to YouTube. She is in the process of closed captioning all the new videos as well for ADA compliance.  Dr. Smith has 151 videos on her YouTube channel and over 1800 Subscribers. She averages around 20,000 minutes viewed each month on her channel.
